United Synagogue Youth (USY) and Kadima are organizations for Jewish teens and pre-teens from across the area and across the country to meet each other, hang out together, and make lifelong friendships while learning about and experiencing Judaism. USY and Kadima are the youth groups associated with the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism.  It is never too late to join. Contact Ariel Lippa for more information or for an application. Make sure you are on the mailing list.  Please, no calls on Shabbat or Yom Tov.

Executive Board

Hey everyone, I just want to say that the Bonfire Opening event was awesome. J I’m truly excited to have seen all the new members and I enjoyed cooking some hot dogs over the fire with each of you. I would like to thank each board member for making the event so much fun and I look forward to seeing everyone at our “Movie Night” here at PBJC on Sunday, November 8th. We just recently had our LTI (Leadership Training Institute Convention). I would like to point out Sarah Brodsky and Hailee Harris (our SATO VP’s) for attending. By attending the convention, Sarah and Hailee met other USY board members from all over NJ and had the chance to gain valuable leadership skills along with making new friends. Our FALL “Kinnus” Convention is Nov. 20-22 this year in Ocean township. I hope you all consider attending, its going to be a lot of fun. Applications can be found at HAGALILUSY.COM.   I really look forward to another fun and exciting year with everyone.

Thanks,

Ariel Lippa

Presidents Corner
PBJC USY has planned a full calendar with great events for the year! We had a successful ice-shattering opening event and hope to see all who attended and all new and interested members at our Israeli/Comedy Movie Double Feature Night! Our Youth Lounge painting and decorations are well underway and we thank all who have contributed to that effort. USY is also proud to have sponsored Pine Brook's first teen services during the high holidays. We had an awesome turnout and were able to have riveting discussions in order to add some spice to the high holidays. I know that the discussion we had on Yom Kippur has influenced many debates in my classes at school on morality and religion, and I leave everyone with the thought, "Why did you choose to fast?" We hope that this tradition continues to next year and invite all who particularly enjoyed our teen service to join USY and come to an event! Looking ahead, we expect a large Pine Brook representation at Fall Convention and expect that our Chanukah party in December will also be very successful. If anyone has any questions about PBJC USY or is interested in joining, feel free to contact me, Julia Shube, at purplejule66@aol.com or any of the other board members.

Kadima (6th- 8th)

Hey!

As usual the past few weeks in the world of Kadima have been action packed and a lot of fun! One of the PBJC events that the community looks most forward to is the annual Purim Carnival! This year’s carnival was particularly great because we had a record number of Kadimanicks and their parents volunteer! I am so proud and thankful for all your help!

In addition to the awesome success of the Purim Carnival, Kadima ushered in the holiday of Passover with a Chocolate Seder! Each Kadimanick made their very own chocolate and will be able to bring an extra special treat to their Seders! Although the kids had tons of fun making the chocolate, I have no doubt they will have even more fun eating it!   In addition we put our own spin on the Seder and Seder plate. The Seder plate consisted of Chocolate Pudding as the charosset, black licorice as the parsley, A twix bar as the shank bone, peppermint patties as the bitter herbs and chocolate eggs as the hardboiled egg. The actual retelling of the Passover story was performed by all the Kadimanicks in a skit entitled "Passover in Hollywood." I would like to thank my amazing chaperones Charlene Rosenbloom and Debbie Rafelson and a special thanks to PBJC’S chocolate maven Hadas Toren!

Please join Kadima in May for two extremely fun events! The month of May will kick off with a Pajama Party and Wii Tournament on Monday night May 4th and end with a bang when the annual Kadima cookout comes around on Sunday May 24th.

If you would like to join or learn more about Kadima please email Kadima advisor Jared Rosenbloom at KADIMAROCKS@gmail.com

Have a great Passover,

Jared Rosenbloom

EL AL News

Remember:  Membership is required to attend all events, so return your applications and dues, and join us for a great year!

El Al News

EL AL has gotten off to an amazing start!  In September we had our first trip to Monster Golf!  The turnout was awesome and the kids all had a blast.  Thanks to Mitch Goldsmith and Halli Goldsmith for helping to chaperone!  October’s fun included a trip to a pumpkin patch, where we enjoyed a hayride, pumpkin picking, hay maze and even a pumpkin slingshot!  What could be better?!

This month, we are having our very first Saturday Night Live at the JCC!  Join us on Saturday night, November 21st, as Jewish kids from all over Morris County get together for swim, gym, video games, and more!  Parents willing to chaperone would be greatly appreciated!  Look for details in your emails and BE THERE!!!

Save the date because on December 6th we are having CHOCOLATE MAKING for CHANUKAH!  We love EL AL!!!

Look for monthly flyers and emails, and RSVP to Andrea ( Andigold@optonline.net ) or Hadas ( Hadastoren@hotmail.com ) when noted.  We can’t wait to see you!
