MEN’S CLUB News :

You should have already received your invoice for Men’s Club.  If you have already sent in your payment we thank you for your support.  However there are still many of you that have not yet joined.  We urge you to send in your payment, support your men’s Club and join us in any of the many events that we run during the year.  You can start with our next breakfast scheduled for December 7th where, as always we will have a great combination of fabulous food, friends and fun.  We already have an exciting morning planned with yet another “special guest speaker”.  Mark your calendar now and watch for further details.

If you (and/or your company) are interested in sponsoring one of our upcoming breakfasts, please let us know.  We still have choice dates available.  It’s a great way to promote and market your company or organization to all the men of the PBJC and at the same time you will be supporting the Men’s Club.

It’s the Men’s Club that is responsible every year for building the Sukkah.  As I write this article, we are preparing to start construction (scheduled for Sunday October 12th).  Based on our previous year’s experience and the fact that we don’t use any power tools, we should be OK, but we’ll keep you posted!  I want to thank all the guys who will be getting up early (rain or shine) to help out.

On Wednesday evening November 12th, we will be honoring Mark Roffman as our 2008-2009 PBJC Men’s Club Man-Of-The-Year.  Mark has been a long time member of the Men’s club and it was a unanimous and easy decision to select Mark for this honor.  Please help us pay tribute to Mark in recognition of his outstanding service and dedication to the PBJC Men’s Club and our synagogue by attending the dinner in his honor.  This year’s event will be held at the Wilshire Grand in West Orange   NJ .   This will be a special evening and we are expecting a big turnout, so your RSVP will be required!  You will be receiving further details on this special event but please contact Dinner Chairman Howard C hesler if you have any questions.  We extend our congratulations and our thanks to Mark for all his contributions, assistance and support through the years!

On Wednesday December 17th, at 4:30 p.m. the Men’s Club is co-sponsoring a Chanukah Concert – Mama Doni.  This event is open to all children of the synagogue (and grandchildren as well).  Come out for a fun-filled concert and celebrate Chanukah with the Mama Doni Band that is dedicated to making Jewish culture fresh and fun for people of all ages. You can check out their website at: www.mamadoni.com

We think that you will be pleasantly surprised, so why not give the Men’s Club a try?

Remember this is NOT your father’s Men’s Club, it’s yours!

If you have any questions, please contact us.

The PBJC Men’s Club Is Proud To Honor

Mark Roffman

As Our “Man Of The Year” 2008/2009

Born and raised in Boston, Mark and his brother, Joel, were inspired by their mother, a widow at 36, to give of themselves their synagogues as well as to non-profit organizations. Both strongly believe that the measure of any person is not what he has; but what he gives. After moving to New Jersey in 1975, Mark served on numerous committees and was president at Temple Hatikvah in Flanders. In 1985 the Roffmans moved to Montville, immediately joined PBJC, and Mark began to attend Board meetings. Thus began 23 years of commitment and service that continues to endure. Mark has served and chaired many standing and special committees and was president of the Pine Brook Jewish Center. He is an active member of PBJC Men’s Club and enjoys serving those less fortunate in the Soup Kitchen in Morristown. (Ina and Mark support a Native American through Save the Children and contribute to their favorite charities.)

Mark thanks the presidents who provided the opportunity for him to serve the synagogue and Men’s Club as chair/co-chair of various committees and to the members of those committees who made his service so rewarding. Mark’s commitment to our synagogue is possible because of the Ina’s support. Ina and Mark met during their first semester of undergraduate school. They have been married for 40 years, have two children, Gary married to Julie who live in Florida, and Jeremy, who lives in NYC.

Professionally Mark has a doctorate in psychopharmacology and MBA, post-doctoral training in neurochemistry, was a faculty member in the department of psychiatry at two medical schools, and has been involved in new drug development for 25 years.

Mark’s passions are the outdoors, The Red Sox, and his family. He thanks the Men’s Club for this honor which he states is both humbling and flattering.
